Garuda
Scientific name: Deusavis longicolla (Long-necked god bird)
Height: 5 to 6 feet
Weight: 200 to 320 ibs
Habitat: rainforests
Native region: Southern Asia
Evolved from: chicken
Lifespan: 20 to 35 years

- named after a legendary bird in Hindu mythology
- The Garuda are elusive omnivorous birds in Southern Asia. The roam the rainforest floor feeding on fruit, seeds, fungi, insects, and smaller animals. Their main form of defense is simply running away at speeds of up to 40 miles per hour with their long thin legs. If they're cornered, they'll use their talons to inflict damage.
- They live in a small harem that's led by an alpha male with several females. Males are typically larger and possess colorful plumage. Females are smaller and usually have a drab appearance. Females typically pick strong males with vibrant feathers and large combs as they signify that the male is strong and healthy. The strongest males with the most vibrant plumage and large combs typically have more females in their harems. A male Garuda will also protect the females and their offspring from threats including tigoose, wrats, zhili, and their predatory cousins called tyrant fowl.

I can imagine chickens and other gamebirds filling the niche for ostriches and other ratites too. Except the way I imagined them looked much different than how you drew this one. Still, this is cool.
